SEVEN MILES OUT

WE’RE celebrating our local arts talent here in Stockport this week with our second Art, Beer and Music event this Thursday evening organised by Stockport photographer Lee Harrison.

This is a great opportunity for artists to come together and share each other’s work and for art lovers and collectors to get a first-hand view of inspiring new artwork in a relaxed social environment.

The evening starts at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome. We’ve got a wide range of Robinsons’ bottled beers and craft ales to quench the thirst as well as our usual refreshments and we’ll have some live music to add to the ambience.

If you have an interest in local art or creating art, please join us for this unique gathering.

On Friday, from 7.30pm, we have our regular Twang! event hosted by the very wonderful Stockport Ukulele Players.

This is when our amazing community comes together for a good old sing-song and strum. This event has become so popular that we now regularly have over 50 people gathered to play the ukulele and it is attracting people from as far afield as Macclesfield and Congleton to Stockport Old Town.

The wonderful thing about Twang! is that it spans the whole of the community - at our last event our oldest participant was 94-years young and our youngest players were under the age of ten.

We also had lots of talented people step forward to take part in the Open Mic and were bowled over by our youngest entertainers, seven-year-old Aidan Harrison who sang and played the ukulele and 13-year-old Joel Harrison, who performed with his grandad Norman.

Saturday Sessions takes place this Saturday evening and showcases the best in local live music. This is one of our most popular events and is curated by Kamey McNamara from Community Music.

It is always a great atmosphere spanning many musical genres including folk, funk, ska, pop, rock and much more.

This month we have four incredible acts to drench your ears in beautiful sounds including: Peter Butler, who plays ‘finger-picking guitar to a standard that you rarely hear these days’’; Elmo Ashall-Kelly, who is a solo acoustic player doing folk, soul and a bit of ska; and Pleasure Cell, a fourpiece outfit writing melodic songs with great harmonies. The final band of the night will be playing some fantastic covers to get everyone singing and dancing the night away.

Entry is free and under 18s are very welcome with an adult.

If you haven’t yet discovered our quirky and intimate venue, why not come down and join our great community. Find out more about our up and coming events at www.sevenmilesoutarts.co.uk Rosemary Barratt

CHADS THEATRE

CHADS Studio presents ‘A Pair Of Pinter’s Shorts’ from Wednesday, February 15, to Saturday, February 18.

David Quaife will direct two one-act plays by Harold Pinter to be presented in the Chads Studio.

The two plays are A Slight Ache (1958) and Landscape (1967). This double-bill was presented at the National Theatre in 2008 and starred Clare Higgins and Simon Russell Beale.

Should anyone think that Pinter is deadly dull or obscure, this is the time to think again. These two short plays reveal his sharp wit and observation of human life. 2005 saw Harold Pinter win the Nobel Prize in Literature. He has been described as ‘the foremost representative of British drama in the second half of the twentieth century.’

You can book online for FREE or call the Box Office on 0333 666 3366 (telephone bookings are subject to a £1.50 transaction fee per booking), online bookings are completely FREE. Di Lawson
