USA TRADE DEAL CRUCIAL

-

such as the ones just being completed at Stockport Exchange and Edward Street.

Much other good work is going on around the town, but the Hillgates are a bit quiet and the flagship Piccadilly development is similarly listless.

The old warehouses around King Street West need attention, but once done, I am sure private investment would become available for the building of marina-style apartments, set back from the River Mersey and immediately down river from the warehouses.

A striking and imaginative riverside frontage would secure premium prices for those apartments and simultaneously boost Stockport’s tourism.

I would like to see a six-feet high bronze statue of Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson, mounted on a four feet high stone plinth along this riverside, and a Statue of Liberty of matching size and material to the Nelson statue.

Visitors can sit and rest at these two separate monuments and gaze upon them whilst contemplating the river running by, ever onwards to England’s western shores and the oceans and far off lands which lie beyond.

Last week in America ‘Manchester by the Sea’ was winning all the accolades.

My wish is that Stockport’s riverside will soon be winning a few of its own. John Tyers Marple I HAVE no concern with regards Donald Trump and his policies but do you not find that the British public are shooting themselves in the foot if they do not see how very important it is for Britain to have a trade deal with the USA.

If not the people of Britain are going to find it will be very difficult for the months ahead – it does not bear thinking about. Edwin King Stockport
