The condition affects one in 10 adults and there are almost 23,000 across Stockport living with it.

Tinnitus is described as ‘ringing in the ears’ but can also take the form of buzzing, whooshing or humming noises.

Suzie Bryant, of Starkey Hearing Technologies which is organising the event said: “Because tinnitus affects each person differently, our event is particularly relevant and useful as we will individually test and discuss each condition - including how it sounds, how annoying it is or how debilitating it can be.”

The awareness and support event aims to provide those affected with advice and information on managing the condition most effectively.

The event will take place on Tuesday, February 7 from 10am to 2pm at Starkey Hearing Technologies, William F Austin House, Bramhall Technology Park, Hazel Grove.

On the day, Starkey experts will be on hand to carry out a hearing evaluation and otoscopy – enabling visitors to take a look inside their ear using a small camera.

They will also share advice on how best to protect against the condition.

Sue Falkingham, Audiologist at Starkey Hearing Technologies, added: “There is a frequent misconception that tinnitus cannot be helped.

“While it is true there are no cures for tinnitus, there are a number of solutions that allow sufferers to take control of and manage their tinnitus to provide relief from this frustrating condition.”
