STOCKPORT’S first ever Street Chilli Fiesta comes to Stockport Market this month as part of the annual Stockport Old Town Folk Festival on Saturday, April 22.

This hotly-anticipated event will fill The Mile in Stockport Market Place with colourful stalls where people can taste, eat, drink and buy an array of chilli products from local producers.

The Street Chilli Fiesta takes place from 10am and at midday Seven Miles Out will be hosting their ‘Chilli Chill-Out’ with acoustic performers throughout the afternoon. Visitors are invited to take their chilli meals into Seven Miles Out to enjoy the free musical entertainment from local artists, including Heidi Dewhirst, Kevin Farrell, Beth Calton, Crude Oil Inc, Beulah String Band, Pieter Egriega, Elmo Ashall-Kelly and Chloe Jones.

The Stockport Old Town Folk Festival, sponsored by Robinsons Brewery and supported by Stockport Council, launches on Thursday, April 20, at Seven Miles Out with a special comedy evening ‘The Book of Northern’ depicting the entire history of the north west told in under an hour through music, mime, sketches and silliness. Tickets are £5 in advance or on the door.

Friday evening features live folk music in Seven Miles Out with All My Ghosts, Phil Davies, Peter Butler and Blue Penny Mountain Band.

The first weekend of the Folk Festival culminates in a spectacular St George’s Day celebration on Sunday, April 23 featuring a parade from Market Place to Merseyway and a programme of folk music, morris dance and free family entertainment.
