Stockport Express

An historic moment in time

-

A TIME capsule giving a glimpse into life in 2017 has been buried at Stockport’s new leisure development.

Pupils from St Mary’s Primary came up with the idea and did the honours at Redrock, central Stockport, where they left the capsule for future generations to discover.

In it were items documenting school life such as the children’s work, photos, a school jumper and books as well as coins, stamps and copies of the Stockport Express and Manchester Evening News.

Others there to help with the ceremony included council leader Alex Ganotis, St Mary’s headteacher Paul Towey and Martyn Cox, from constructors George Cox and Sons.

When opened later this year the £45m Redrock development will have a multi-screen cinema, restaurants and shops.

Councillor Ganotis said: “I think this is a brilliant idea, I’m sure that when the time capsule is dug up Stockport will be a very different place.”

Mr Towey added: “The whole school from nursery to year six contributed. It will be great for them to look back on this experience.”
