Epic bike charity challenge

-

A CHARITY fundraiser who is attempting to cycle 1,500 miles in just 10 days has set off on his epic challenge.

Stockport martial arts expert Carl Thomas, who only took up cycling a few months ago, pedalled away from the Bear’s Head pub in Holmes Chapel on Friday (June 30).

He plans to return to Vernon Park in Offerton on Sunday (July 9) having cycled twice the length of the country – including a massive 300-mile ride through the night from Stirling Castle in Scotland back to Stockport.

Carl, 32, last year ran an amazing 10 marathons in 10 days – despite spraining his ankle on the sixth day.

He said: “This year’s challenge has pushed me to my limits so far just in training alone.”

Carl decided to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust after seeing family and friends battle the disease, including Tom Garratt who was just 17 when he was diagnosed and will be joining him for a leg of the journey.

Carl, who has had messages of support from Bradley Wiggins and Chris Hoy, has raised £15,000 so far. For updates about Carl’s journey visit www.4areason.co.uk
