- EMMA CURRY

A GROUP of artists are displaying their work in the shop windows of Stockport’s old town.

The 45 members of Woodsmoor Artists, who meet at Trinity Methodist Church on Bramhall Lane, have set up an Art Trail which will be running until July 14.

Artwork is now on display in 19 locations: Cafelito, Alpenstock, Petersgate Tap, Vernon Building Society, Preen Beauty Specialists, The Fish Inn, Twist of Fate Hair Extensions, CLC Christian Bookshop, Blackshaws Cafe, Heaven Hairdressing, Jewel on the Hill, A Gentleman’s Relish, Age UK, Leonardo’s Italian Restaurant, Rhode Island Cafe, SDL Locksmith’s Services, Lord of the Pies, Aarons Opticians and Stockport Plaza’s booking office.

Maps are available at Stockport Tourist Information and the Plaza booking office.

There will also be a stall selling artwork from the group in Stockport Market Hall on Saturday July 8 and Friday, July 14, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Woodsmoor Artists has been running for three years, and holds two weekly sessions, both on Wednesdays, from 9.30am to noon and from 7pm to 9.30pm.

The youngest member is 11 years old and the oldest is 80.

Pauline Sheaff, aged 62, has been part of the group for two years. She said: “I joined when I retired from teaching, having previously done very little drawing and painting.

“The group is important to me, because it encourages me to learn new skills and use a different bit of my brain, and it is also important from a social point of view.

“It is a wonderful community group.

“We decided to set up the Art Trail for two reasons: in order to exhibit our work to a wider public and especially people who might not normally visit an art exhibition, and also to encourage people to discover some of the wonderful businesses in the lovely old town of Stockport.”
