Open day fun as care home joins in national celebration
A CARE home in Cheadle welcomed the local community for an afternoon of summer fun to celebrate Care Home Open Day.
The team at Abney Court in Abney Hall Park opened the doors to the care home for the family-friendly event organised in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
Residents were joined by dogs including a Labrador, border collie and Yorkshire terrier and enjoyed watching a ‘best in class’ dog show and an agility course.
Alongside the fourlegged entertainment, there was also live music from Charleston Charlie’s, a Great Gatsby-inspired party band.
Mary Robinson, the MP for Cheadle, also paid the home a visit.
Tracy Mitchell, home manager at Abney Court, said: “We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating Care Home Open Day with the local community.
“The event was a brilliant opportunity to break down preconceptions about care home life and showcase the warm and welcoming care environment here at Abney Court.
“The residents loved seeing the dogs performing and everyone commented how much they enjoyed the 1920s-themed music.
“We look forward to welcoming the people of Cheadle to join us again very soon.”
