School rocks for dads’ day special

-

GREENBANK Preparatory School was transformed into the The School of Rock for a special Father’s Day breakfast ideal for ageing rockers.

The event was the brainchild of nine-year-old lead singer Toby Dunn from Bramhall and his friend Leo Baythorpe from Cheadle Hulme, also nine, who wanted to play their fathers’ favourite rock songs.

Toby said: “I love singing along to dad’s CD collection and I thought it would be nice to sing his and my favourite song, Photosynthesis by Frank Turner, for our Father’s Day breakfast.”

His teacher Jacqueline Reeder brought his plan to fruition, as she called in the services of her husband Jim who doubles as singer and keyboard player for the Stockport rock and blues band Perfect Strangers.

Toby said: “We had an afternoon practising and then the next morning I was standing up in front of 120 dads and the whole school singing the songs.”

Both Toby and Leo, who has been playing the drums since he was just five years old, want to be rock stars when they grow up.

Jim said: “We had to design a set we thought the dads and the pupils would like, so as well as Frank Turner we played some Cold Play, Thom Petty and, in recognition of recent events in Manchester, Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis.”
