Seconds lose ground
IN their game at Bowdon, Bramhall’s second XI were forced to bat on a clear ‘bat second’ track with only half a team present at the time of toss.
The decision inevitably hamstrung the batting effort with regular wickets falling for not very many runs as the top order failed to apply itself.
Gavin Tomlinson (38) and Rupert Kitzinger (34*) managed to take the team to 129-9 at tea but it looked well short of where Bramhall needed to be.
That would inevitably prove to be the case as Bowdon chased the score down for the loss of two wickets in 43 overs.
Despite a tight 30 overs between Kitzinger and Adam Siddall, the Bowdon batsmen needed only to occupy the crease and succeeded in putting some distance between themselves and Bramhall in the league.
At the the halfway point of the season, Bramhall sit outside but within sight of the promotion places.
A more consistent second half with the bat will be necessary to put themselves in with a chance of playing Premier League cricket next season.
