- COUNTY SUPPORTERS COOPERATIVE COLUMN IAN BROWN

AS you know, the Stockport County Supporters Cooperative is affiliated to and supported by Supporters Direct.

This year Supporters Direct are hosting a Supporters Summit, in conjunction with Football Supporters’ Federation, at St George’s Park in partnership with The Football Association on Saturday 1st July and Sunday 2nd July, and offers more proof, if proof be needed, that football fans have a lot to offer the game given half a chance.

Fans are expected to attend from across Britain to debate football’s big issues and seek to influence the game for the better, via workshops covering topics including governance issues, ticket pricing, diversity and much more.

The opener is Clubs in Crisis. Several clubs are suffering at the hands of incompetent owners and in many cases, the relationships between the club and fans has broken down completely- expect a lively and informative debate.

The morning sessions include Preventing Child Abuse in Football, What Role Can Fans Play? This session is Chaired by Phil Frampton (White Flowers organisation), which campaigns to inform and educate and campaign for the rights of victims of sexual abuse.

On then to Regulatory reform. This workshop will identify where there have been regulatory failings in the game, what could have prevented them, and what can be done about it.

Structured Dialogue (part 1): This session will see how structured dialogue at club level is working. They will hear how Fulham FC are embracing this opportunity, alongside plans to develop the current obligations in the professional and nonleague game.
