ASCHOOLBOY has proved his lust for learning - by not missing a single day’s lessons in seven years

Shaun Brady, 18, a pupil at Stockport Academy, in Cheadle Heath, has attended every day since joining as a year seven in 2010.

He has now finished his upper sixth and his achievement was recognised at the school’s end of year prize giving ceremony.

Staff at the school, on Heathbank Road, rewarded Shaun, who lives in Cheadle Heath, with the gift of a multi-media projector.

He said: “It’s not something I’ve really thought about until the last few years, but as time has gone on, I think people would have been more shocked if I had taken a day off.

“The award is a huge motivation to come in every day - not missing lessons is so important if you want to do well.”

At the annual event other students were given awards for attainment and positive contributions to school life.

There were eight year 11 pupils who look set to follow in Shaun’s footsteps as they have completed five years of perfect attendance.

And Shaun is not the first youngster to never miss a lesson at Stockport Academy, last year students Sam Nicholl and Amber Hobson also left the sixth form with a 100 per cent record.

Principal Frank McCarron said: “Shaun’s achievement is an amazing one and he has been a real credit to the academy throughout his seven years with us.

“He has been an active member of the Stockport Academy community, regularly supporting events here, is a talented musician and he will be missed by all.”

But Shaun will return to the school is September, combining a role helping the music department with studying at Salford University.

At the event the school made a £5,000 donation, split between charities St Ann’s Hospice, Signpost Stockport For Young Carers and Habarana School in Sri Lanka.

And Ben Smith, who has run 401 marathons in 401 days, was the guest speaker.

Mr McCarron added: “This year has been our best prize giving evening to date and I am proud that we have been able to present nearly 350 awards over the course of the night.

“I would like to pass on a big well done to all students who have worked so hard over the last year.”
