Webb’s century in vain as Woodley crash

DIVISION 1 Woodley elected to bat at Dove Holes and posted 231-7, Harrison Webb with 110, Jamie Kay 36 and Gary Picken 32.

Woodley found Tom Forder in imperious form as he smashed an unbeaten 161 to see the home side through to 235-7 and victory.

New Mills won the toss and elected to bowl in what turned out to be a low scoring thriller as they hosted Buxworth, the away side all out for 109 as Josh Stevens took 4-40. Dan Gilbride took 3-31 and Nathan Crictchlow 4-10 as the home side struggled to 110-8.

In Division 2 the Hazel Grove batsmen had a day to forget at Whaley Bridge, having won the toss they slumped to 77 all out. The home side then cruised to 78-2.

Compstall amassed a mammoth 333-6 batting first at Birch Vale, David Bailey (59), Sam Messih (57), S Jackson (44) and Phil Dunn (74) all in the runs. Dylan Heginbotha­m then took 5-32 as 10 man Birch Vale fell to 85 all out.

Stalybridg­e elected to bat at home to Offerton and were 246-7 as A Davies took 3-57. M Myatt then hit 35 and Tom Thelwell 34 but Mallett took 5-31 to reduce the visitors to 121 all out.

Newton chose to bat as they hosted High Lane, C Williams going on to make 52, S Nugent 49 and Lee Turner 36 in a total of 244 all out, Jonny Marshall taking 3-56, George Whitney 3-60 and Mike McCarthy 3-56. G Robinson then hit 59, Joe Chorlton 30, Jonny Marshall 32 and Mike McCarthy 39 but the scoring rate wasn’t quick enough with High Lane closing well short on 206-6.

Woodley were 180-9 batting first at Dove Holes in Division 3, H Rippon hitting 40 and R Johnson taking 5-29. Dove were then 140 all out, P Scowen with 39 and Dan Waterhouse 31 while Jack O’Malley took 4-11.

Hazel Grove were all out for just 112 as they entertaine­d New Mills, Luke Bennett top scoring with 37 as Tom Boardman took 3-41 and Ash Boardman 3-6. J Cooper (58) and S Kilner (35) were then both unbeaten as New Mills cruised to 113-1.

In Division 4 Offerton were 113 all out batting first at home to Stalybridg­e, A Thomas with 31. In reply Stalybridg­e also struggled, eventually limping to 114-8, S pickles taking 3-13.

High Lane smashed 221-9 batting first at home to Hadfield, new signing R Khan with 87 and H Sheikh 30. S Shehzad took 5-22 and H Sheikh 3-14 as the visitors slumped to 109 all out.

Compstall hit 223-8 batting first at home to Birch Vale, Graham Parry with 49 and P Jackson 58. In reply, Birch closed 174-7
