Buildings left empty despite need for homes

-

REGARDING the article on Fulstone Mews, Offerton (Wednesday, July 5) ‘Scandal of empty flats’

The sheltered housing scheme was at the bottom end of the complex. The first two blocks were as is termed ‘general lets.’

While it is true that Equity in this case were not good landlords to the tenants, no true money as such was being spent on the whole scheme.

The sheltered block needed money ‘structurally’ being spent on it, Equity was reluctant to do this.

While I agree with Alan, who I knew, Equity seemed to be more concerned with its image. Good landlords?

Compensation-wise the general lets seemed to be happy with what they received. The sheltered tenants had one hell of a struggle to get any sort of disturbance payment.

I was the scheme cleaner for five-and-a-half years then I was made redundant due to funding issues.

What a pity that the buildings are now empty, buildings that could be used due to shortage of accommodation. As to the statement about Fulstone being the best on the books, that remark is very questionable. Mr R Lever Woodley witnessed breathtakingly bad behaviour at the wheel, including a young chap in a new-ish Mercedes repeatedly undertaking and weaving in and out of traffic at around 80mph on a 50mph restricted section of motorway.

Where are the traffic police when you need them?

Also many drivers on their mobile phones while whizzing along at speed (mainly white van man) and others who seem to think an amber traffic light is a challenge and red just means go if you please.

We hear that the number of accidents are now a lot less than a few years ago but I suspect that is due to cars getting better - not the drivers. Angry Motorist Stockport
