WE’RE having a weekend of events celebrating the life of Stockport’s special son, Martyn Hett, with our #bemoreMartyn Foodie Friday and Stockport Pride at Seven Miles Out on Sunday afternoon.

Although we didn’t know Martyn personally, we have been heartbroken by the loss of this inspirational young man and were privileged to play a small part in helping to present his wonderful vigil in Heaton Moor Park which was so incredibly moving.

Martyn’s legacy is that life is for living with as much joy, laughter and passion as you can possibly muster and we hope that you can gather together with your nearest and dearest this weekend in Stockport and #bemoreMartyn

The playlist for Foodie Friday will be Martyn’s favourite music and we will have some amazing live performances from Jack B. Dawson, Blank Cheque and Martyn’s childhood friend, the international music artist JJRosa, who recently supported Phil Collins in Hyde Park and will be performing a special stripped back set in Stockport Market Hall that’s not to be missed.

Throughout the evening, there will be live music in Seven Miles Out from 6pm with the Foodie Friday performers playing a second set for anyone who misses them.

We will also be raffling some specially-designed T-shirts to raise funds for the Beechwood charity in memory of Martyn so please look out for that and support if you can.

On Sunday we are delighted to be part of the first ever Stockport Pride making history in the Market Place and Martyn will again be the focus of attention as the music stage has been named after him.

Many of Martyn’s gay friends have told of how he encouraged them to be out and proud about their sexuality and it was fantastic that Attitude magazine honoured him with a Pride award.

From midday on Sunday we have a full afternoon of live music in Seven Miles Out with performances from Heidi Dewhirst, Sophie Blackwell, Jack B. Dawson, Beth Calton, The Stockport Ukulele Players, Candy Cactus, Dr Uke, Taylor Giacoma and Square One.

From 6pm we will be hosting the Stockport Pride After Show Party which features an ’80’s disco and Lip Sync Battle with some special performers taking the mic.

If anyone would like to enter, please get in touch with us. Our Sunday event is sponsored by Robinsons Brewery and there will be a wide range of bottled Robinsons ales available.
