Hawk Green win in league but lose cup tie

- JOHN RICHARDS

A MIXED weekend for the Green started with a trip to New Mills in the league on Saturday and the New Mills skipper invited the Green to take first use of the wicket.

The Green opened with their usual pairing of Craig Young and Josh Hampson facing Joshua Stevens and David Ward, the pair moved the score along nicely to 55 when Stevens produced a brute of a ball to bowl Craig Young, 19, on the same score.

Josh Hampson was run out for 40 and Peter Richards was lbw Stevens for a duck.

Jack Needham and Josh Unsworth moved the score along to 100 when Needham became the fourth victim to fall caught Boardman bowled Hadfield.

Unsworth was joined by Jordan Henderson and the pair looked untroubled until Unsworth was bowled by Dan Holmes for 44, 139 – 5.

Next to the crease was Paul Needham but next to fall was Henderson for 29 at 146 – 6.

The innings eventually closed on 187 – 9.

The New Mills batsmen never really threatened their target and wickets fell at regular intervals with only five batsmen managing to reach scores in the teens and eventually they were all out for 103 with the wickets shared by Ryan Stringer, Jason Downey , Mark Richards and Jordan Henderson.

On Sunday the Green had their dreams shattered when travelling to Sessay, the holders, in the last 8 of the National KO batting first Sessay posted 214 – 6 a total which the Green never troubled, but there is always next year and with an opportunity of still being in with a shout of glory within the league this season.
