Summer reading challenge

-

CHILDREN in Stockport are invited to join the Animal Agents Summer Reading Challenge at the borough’s libraries.

Youngsters aged four to 11 can sign up for the free challenge to read six books this summer and this year’s theme is based on a detective agency staffed by animals.

Artwork for the scheme has been created by Tony Ross, a best-selling children’s illustrator.

To take part all children need to do is sign up at a nearby library and get a collector folder to keep a record of their progress.

As the six books are read clues will be collected to help the animal agents crack their case.

The challenge has already launched and runs until September 9, with events and activities planned at libraries throughout.

The Stockport Summer Reading Challenge Cup will be awarded to the school who has the highest percentage of children complete the challenge.

Councillor David Sedgwick, cabinet member for libraries, said: “We know how important it is for children to keep reading over the summer holidays so that they keep their literacy levels up.”
