Peaks challenge is taken in their stride

-

A TEAM from the Vernon Building Society in Stockport has raised more than £2,000 for The Christie.

The group of 14 completed the 22km Cheshire Three Peaks in eight hours to raise funds following the fire at the Withington cancer hospital.

The final total will include a £600 donation from the Vernon Building Society.

The blaze at the hospital in April saw research and life-saving equipment destroyed.

Caroline Shard, senior customer service manager at the Vernon, organised the walk.

She said: “The peaks really were challenging but we had a lot of fun.

“Thankfully the weather was on our side.

“There were a lot of sore legs and paws afterwards – Harvey the dog kept up the pace.”

“We’re very thankful for the donations, they were a very strong motivator during the day.

“I’m very proud of the team for what has been achieved.”

The Cheshire Three Peaks takes in Tegg’s Nose (370m), Shining Tor (559m) and Shutlingsloe (506m) near Macclesfield Forest.

Jen Bailey, corporate fundraising co-ordinator at The Christie charity, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Vernon Building Society.

“It is brilliant to see so many members of their team taking on the Cheshire Three Peaks in support of The Christie.”
