Vote so your good cause can cash in

THE Vernon Building Society has announced the 16 local causes in Stockport that will benefit from a share of the £10,000 Jubilee Fund.

Each shortlisted group or charity will receive a minimum of £100 with the rest of the money divided after a public vote.

The 16 shortlisted groups are: ●●Independent Options ●●The Weekend Day Care Centre for Dementia Care ●●AuKids ●●Stockport Foodbank ●●The Wellspring ●●MedEquip4Kids ●●Stockport County Community Foundation ●●Friends of St Joseph’s ●●Love Reddish ●●1st Hazel Grove Scout Group ●●Stroke Information ●●Family Art Attack ●●Bosden Farm Community Group ●●AVRO Heritage Museum ●●Beechwood Cancer Care Centre ●●Stockport Building Preservation Trust More information about the groups and the great work they do will be featured in the Stockport Express on August 9 when the first voting token will also be published.

Further tokens will be published on August 16 and 23 – with two tokens in the Stockport Express on August 30.

The more tokens a group receives, the more funding it will get.

Tokens can be submitted to the charity or community group directly or dropped in at any of the Vernon’s six local branches – in the town centre, Bramhall, Marple, Reddish, Hazel Grove and Poynton.

The Vernon’s chief executive, Mike Hanson, said: “As with every year picking a shortlist is such a tough job as they are all such deserving causes.

“Hopefully we have chosen a diverse range of groups and charities that now need the public’s help to claim their share of the fund.

“We would now urge Stockport Express readers to get behind the groups, make their votes count and support great local causes.”

This year’s programme will mean that since its launch in 2012 the Jubilee Fund will have awarded over £60,000 to more than 70 local charity and community groups.
