Finalists for business person of the year
STOCKPORT Business Awards 2017 is now in its sixth year, having been set up by Clarke Nicklin Chartered Accountants back in 2012 to recognise and reward business excellence in the town.
Each week we’re going to be telling you a little bit more about the companies that have made the shortlist.
The Business Person of the Year category is sponsored by Leemic and the shortlisted individuals are Carl Hampson (Allied Bakeries), James Atkinson (P&P Mailing and Distribution) and Nicola Ryan (Rowlinson Knitwear).
CARL is the general manager at Allied Bakeries in Stockport. Over the past few years he has directed over fifty million pounds worth of investment into the Stockport plant and depot.
Carl has also become a mentor within Allied Bakeries, assisting those who take part in a Leadership Development Programme. Being a mentor allows each employee to learn from Carl’s wealth of knowledge and experience, which he is always happy to share!
JAMES (known by colleagues as Jim) set up P&P mailing 25 years ago in Stockport and it remains here to this day.
In the beginning, he worked tirelessly to get the business off the ground and through some tough times and today it’s going from strength to strength with 16 permanent employees.
He is coming up to retirement age but is still very much involved in the business, whether that’s getting his hands dirty with the day-to-day running or mentoring employees as they move up within the business.
NICOLA is an exemplary ambassador for Rowlinson, highly regarded by staff and external stakeholders alike and is credited with transforming HR into the outstanding People Services function that she heads up today.
Since she joined the company in 2010, employee satisfaction rating has risen from 34 per cent to 100pc, Rowlinson have won multiple awards for being a great Employer, they’ve achieved Investors in People Gold standard and, perhaps her biggest achievement in terms of a cultural revolution, is being the person responsible for starting the process that recently saw Rowlinson become an employee-owned company.
Leemic have been staunch supporters of Stockport Business Awards since its inception and sponsored a category for the last five years.
Winners will be announced at a BlackTie dinner at Stockport Town Hall on October 12, which 400 of Stockport’s finest will attend.
Stockport Business Awards are organised by businesses for businesses. The organisers and main sponsors are Clarke Nicklin Chartered Accountants and headline sponsors are Gorvins Solicitors and Orbit Developments.
