Books, beer and businesses at event

MARPLE Book Fair will take place from August 14 to August 19.

The event has expanded for 2017 and will involve more events and local businesses within Marple.

On August 14, a Books and Beer at Beer Traders event will be held from 7pm to 10pm.

This will be a beer pairing event with a literary twist.

The beers have been chosen by the experts at Beer Traders to enhance visitors’ enjoyment of classic books.

Then, on August 15, there will be a Bookish Crafts event at Cloudberry Cafe from 5pm to 7pm, which will be a crafting session themed around books.

On August 16, there will be a poetry evening at The Samuel Oldknow from 7pm to 10pm, when an array of local poets will entertain guests.

There will also be a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at All Things Nice on August 17, from 6pm to 9.30pm.

The event will start with savoury bites, incorporat­ing classic afternoon tea with a twist, followed by desserts and a pot of tea.

Tickets for the afternoon tea are available for £25 per person.

The first sitting will be held from 6pm to 7.30pm and the second from 8pm to 9.30pm.

On August 18, a children’s book reading will be held at Marple Library from 11am to 1pm.

Children and their parents will be able to listen to Lucy Keeling, author of Robots Don’t Say Please and Nicola Hulme, author of Portia the Pear, who will be reading from their new books.

Finally, on August 19, a book sale will be held at the Senior Citizens’ Hall from 9am to noon.

New and used books will be available from a selection of local authors, publishers, bookshops and donations.
