Seven Miles Out

- Rosemary Barratt

FOR those of you who haven’t jetted off to exotic climes we can always guarantee you some great entertainment here in the heart of Stockport Old Town.

This Friday we’re delighted to welcome back our retro vinyl DJs Kevin Birchall and Linda Yarwood, aka Recordsville Social.

When they first brought their unique specialist night to Seven Miles Out it was an instant hit and had people raving about those pop classics and forgotten gems.

Kevin and Linda have established a loyal clientèle by travelling all over the country to DJ at festivals, events and club nights from Brighton to Glasgow and have played tour sets for Saint Etienne, The Primitives and Teenage Fanclub. These guys love original vinyl cuts (no remixes or reissues here) and they like nothing better than to get a reaction from the great records that they play.

Their last social started with Nick Lowe’s I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass, ended with Cilla Black’s Something Tells Me and featured some delicious tunes in-between from the likes of Pink Military, Sugar Minott, Motels, The Kinks, Blondie, Magazine, Simple Minds, The Cure, Felt, Lovin’ Spoonful, Camera Obscura, Human League, Dislocation Dance, Belle and Sebastian, The Fall, Undertones and so many more.

If you love your records, get yourself down to Seven Miles Out this Friday for a vinyl experience par excellence.

This Saturday we have another cosmic night of live music with the psychedelicinfluenced Purple Merlin, who’ve just released their hypnotic debut track East is West.

Check out their intriguing video and get down to Seven Miles Out to check out this band whose live set promises to be a real treat for the eyes and ears.

Supporting Purple Merlin are another up and coming Stockport band, four-piece Mystic Rose, who have also released their first track, Cassidy’s Close.

If you like to support local music this is the night for you, showcasing the original material of two of the town’s best new bands.
