Woodley sink rivals

IT was a case of dodge the showers following a week of rain in the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League.

In Division 1, Woodley travelled to Hadfield and elected to bat having won the toss, posting 188-9 thanks to 54 from G Hill as Liam Doyle took 4-37. Hadfield then slumped to 66 all out as Conor Cranwell took 5-29 and Mike Mallett 4-29.

Division 2 Compstall batted first at Newton and made 205-7 in their 45 overs, S Jackson with 89 and P Jackson 43 as J Mercer took 4-40. Dylan Heginbotha­m then took 3-38, Frazer Heginbotha­m 4-14 and Jarrad Ince 3-7 as Newton were all out for 66. Offerton chose to bat at Hazel Grove and limped to 86 all out, M Myatt with a patient 49 as Mark Clayton took 6-23 and Dominic Nunn 3-9. Rick Burke then hit an unbeaten 33 as A Davies took 3-46 with Hazel Grove reaching 87-4 to secure victory.

In Division 3, Newton smashed 243-4 as they were asked to bat by hosts Woodley.

Woodley were then restricted to 154-7 despite 59 from C Wilson and D baker’s 30, H Diamond taking 3-12.

In Division 4, Offerton were 74 all out batting first at home to Buxworth, D Bedworth taking 4-18 and T Johnson 3-25.

Mark Drabble then hit 38 and Ken Bradbury 31 not out as Buxworth eased to 78-2. Compstall posted 103-8 batting first at home to Hadfield, J Patel with 43. Mike Hawkin rolled back the years to take 5-29 assisted by 3-25 from D Davies as Hadfield fell short on 81 all out.
