Thornber edges race for Trophy

AVRO’S men played for the Tom McKenzie Trophy and it was won by Michael Thornber with 37 points from Karl O’Sullivan 36 and Andy Knight 35.

The Seniors’ Ainsworth Trophy at Avro was won by Thomas Bagshaw with 39 points from Jack leech 35 and Graham Turnock 34.

Medal action for Disley’s men had Adam Worsley on top of division one with 65, three less than Neil O’Brien and Paul Will.

In division two Mark Berry won a cpo on 67 from Ken Souter and the main man in division three was Bruce mellor with 64.

Disley ladies played for the Millenium Trophy and in division one Lesley Mott was out on her own with 71 from Anne Booth 75 and Elizabeth Critchlow 76.

Top of division two was won by Bi Suk Knowles after a cpo on 76 with Eleanor Cantello.

A singles Stableford at New Mills saw Nigel Garside on fire with 44 points sending him well clear of Colin Osborn and Graham Nevett, both 40 and Phil Yates 39.

A Seniors Aggregate Stableford at New Mills saw Ian Harding first past the post with 80 points from Arthur Oliver 79 and William Sutton 77.

David Pass won the ‘major’ Rigby Trophy at New Mills with 41 points from Kean Hyde 40 and Kallis Hyde and Phil Yates, both 39.

Round six of the Warren Cup for New Mills ladies was a tight affair with Alison Rudder winning a cpo on 32 points from Alison Wright and Margaret Palmer.

A Nine Hole Stableford qualifier for Cheadle ladies was won by Chani Ganatra with 13 points from Vibhu Barchha 12 and Maire Eaton 11.

A Two Man Texas Scramble for Cheadle’s men was won by S Abrahams and A Mee with 57.2 taking them clear of D Bayley and J Hornbuckle 57.7 and S Brown and J Walker 58.2.

Gatley’s men played a medal for the Seniors Trophy and Barrie Uttley went clickety click to win by three shots from Scott Keelan and David Woodworth.

Gatley ladies played a medal for the Senior Ladies Trophy and Margaret Rowland led in with 75, three less than Roisin Andrew.

Heaton Moor’s men played for the Spellman Trophy and club legend Denis Mulrenan showed his class with 65 to finish ahead of Brendan McCarthy 66 and in-form President Ken Lappin 67.

Moor’s ladies played for the Veterans Cup and Margaret Elvidge posted an impressive 68 to win from Jeanette Butterfiel­d 70 and Margaret Worrall 73.

It was close at Romiley as their men played over two rounds for the Centenary medal with Nick Madden winning a cpo on 144 from Alan Martin and Ryan Yates.

There no problems for Linda Moore as Romiley ladies played for Annettes 9 and Hole in Two Stableford as she carded 38 points to finish ahead of Hilary Craven and Sally Hebden, both 33.

Mellor and Townscliff­e ladies played a singles Stableford and Susan Hird was out on her own with 36 points from Romney Barnes 32 and Louise Davenport 31.

Mellor and Townscliff­e juniors played for the Lady President’s Prize and it was won by Cheshire Girls star Lauren Jones with 65 from Jordan Worrall 67 and Ben Jackson 73.

M and T’s men played for the Melrose Cup and it needed a cpo on 66 to see Stephen Crosthwait­e home from Darren Lytham and a shot off their hot pace were John Collinson, Danny Jameson and Philip Baker.
