County team up with unit
STOCKPORT County Community Foundation is supporting a mental health unit to promote healthy living among its service users and staff.
The foundation has signed up as a key sports partner with Heathfield House, a mental health recovery and rehabilitation unit based in Stockport, which is part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Cathleen Liu, senior occupational therapist with Pennine Care, led the unit’s recent 10,000 steps campaign, which brought together 16 service users and 52 staff who aimed to take 10,000 steps a day for 10 days.
This involved service users taking part in weekly football training sessions with Stockport County Community Foundation disability football coaches, circuit and gym training and walking groups.
Adrian Rigby Bates, disability football coach at the foundation, said: “It has been a real pleasure to be involved with Heathfield House as their key sports partners.
“The service users have shown such enthusiasm, energy and motivation in taking part in the weekly football coaching sessions to achieve their steps.”
