Good luck with getting answers from our council!

-

IN her excellent letter to the Stockport Express (November 8), Linda Reade wants some answers from the council. Good luck with that one, Linda.

She is rightly concerned about the large rise in council tax. I have been asking for many, many moons about the £1billion plus bypasses in Stockport.

The council is breaking the law by failing to respond at all. How much will the M60 to A6 bypass cost, who will fund it, who will pay for its upkeep, may I see the Flood Risk Assessment, the Geological survey? – No!

At a time when we are cutting services to young people with autism, why progress the bypass to the next level with no business case in place?

Councillor Kate Butler did her best to no avail. I have now asked my local councillor Syd Lloyd to look into this illegal failure to respond and I shall keep you posted as to the outcome.

I really must agree with Linda about councillors.

We pay them circa £1m per annum in allowances. What on earth for?

If overpaid and over-mighty council officers just ignore them, then what is the point of paying them at all?

I have heard diddly squat from our new chief executive, Pam Smith, who is paid a massive sum to serve us.

Not sure she fully understands her role – for the avoidance of doubt - to serve the people of Stockport. Name and address supplied

TRANSGENDER ‘LATEST CRAZE’

JOHN Lewis selling gender-neutral clothes, schools with genderneutral toilets and now Top Shop, which is for females and young girls only, opening genderneutral changing rooms on the whim of one male complaining he can’t use them will only attract paedophiles and perverts.

Ordinary people have rights as well, not just transgender people and its time the ordinary people stood up to all this stupidity of political correctness.

The answer to Top Shop and any other store you’re unhappy with is simply boycott them.

It seems all this transgender has now become the latest craze. John Willis Shaw Heath

ELECTRIC CARS NOT SO GREEN

WE are being harassed to buy electric cars because they are greener and cleaner but that’s not really true.

Consider the pollution and environmental damage caused due to the massive mining programme to obtain the nickel and cadmium to make the batteries then add to this the extra pollution from the power stations which will need to produce more power to charge them.

They may not be as green and clean as we are being told.

In fact, indirectly, they could be far more damaging than the car you’re driving at present and leave a far bigger carbon footprint. James Mcguinn Stockport
