A celebration of 200 years of faith
ARELIGIOUS group came together in Bramhall to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Baha’u’llah, the founder of their faith.
This year, people around the world are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah, who began the Bahá’í Religion.
It teaches the unity of all religions and its followers, called Baha’is, believe that Baha’u’llah is the most recent ‘manifestation’ of God.
The Baha’is of Stockport and their families, friends, neighbours and colleagues celebrated the bicentenary on Saturday, October 21, with a screening of the film Light to the World at Bramhall Village Club.
The film tells the story of Baha’u’llah’s life and the impact of his teachings on communities around the world.
After the film there were prayers, music and refreshments and the following day celebrations continued at Stockport College, with prayers, readings, stories and musical performances.
The formal part of the programme ended with a message from the Universal House of Justice, the international governing body of the Bahá’í Faith.
Councillor Linda Holt, the mayor of Stockport, and her consort Ken Holt attended the celebration, which was hosted by the Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Stockport, and also Coun Malcolm Allan, Mary Robinson, MP for Cheadle and friends of the Baha’i Faith.
