Hair business is a real family affair

THE owners of a new business are hoping it will prove a cut above the rest - and say it is Greater Manchester’s first organic vegan hair salon.

Uplift Organic Hair opened in Broadstone Mill, Reddish, on Saturday and is a joint venture by sisters Jade Snell, 29 and Bronte Robinson, 23.

It is classed as organic because it uses as many natural products as possible with as few chemicals as possible. And the salon is vegan as no animal products or ingredients are used.

Jade says that although there is a vegan salon in Bury, her research shows there is no other organic vegan hairdressers in Greater Manchester.

She said: “We go to quite a lot of vegan festivals and people seem quite taken aback by what we are doing. We do not know of another organic vegan salon around here.

“It takes more time and research to set up as you have to go on specific training courses and there’s less choice of brands. It would be easier to set up a regular salon.

“But a lot more people are turning to vegan or at least becoming more conscious of their health and the environment and we are confident there is a market out there.”

The sisters came up with the idea after Bronte had worked in a similar business while travelling in Australia.

She returned to the UK and looked for the same type of salon to work in but could not find one.

After talking to Jade they set up Uplift Organic Hair, which operated as a mobile service with Bronte as the stylist four months ago.

Jade, who is also an administrator for BetFred, is currently training for the same role and takes care of the management side of the business.

The salon held a launch event on Saturday with a buffet, cakes and Prosecco - all of which were vegan.

Jade, who grew up in Reddish but now lives in Rawtenstall, said: “My sister was always getting called by people asking for more natural hair products.

“And when she searched for an organic vegan salon she couldn’t find one so we decided to set up our own.

“We had the idea and now feels like the right time to run with it.”
