Four fabulous decades doing factory finance
AMEMBER of staff at the McVities factory in Stockport is celebrating 40 years with the company.
Janet Jacevicius, assistant site accountant, said: “I started at Pladis (then United Biscuits) on Crossley Road, Manchester, 40 years ago.
“My first role was cost clerk and since then I’ve also had roles as labour clerk, cost office supervisor and now assistant site accountant.
“As you can imagine, I’ve witnessed many changes over the last 40 years!
“The most significant is how the site and processes have developed with the introduction of new technologies.
“These days, everything is a lot quicker than it used to be - we used to have to count each person’s wages and put into pay packets. It seems crazy to think back on this now.
“We’ve had a number of famous visitors to the factory over the years, including Coronation Street actor William Roach, author Jane Asher and Jean Adamson, the author of the Topsy and Tim books, who visited to research for her book ‘Topsy and Tim at the Biscuit Factory’.
Janet added: “One of my highlights at Pladis came last year when the company launched its Time to Change mental health pledge.
“Our pledge aims to create a shift in attitudes towards mental health with an ambassador programme and workplace stress guidance.
“As someone who has faced anxiety in the past, it’s great to see Pladis joining other businesses and organisations in supporting mental health awareness and action.
“Our factory has always been a wonderful place to work – this year has been particularly special as we’re celebrating 100 years of the factory.
“We have a wonderful finance team with great leadership and I’m so glad to have been a part of it for 40 years.
“My favourite product from the Stockport factory? It’s got to be McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes!”
