Spice is a growing menace on streets

- BY JONATHAN BILLINGS Chief Executive Officer at The Wellspring

THE synthetic drug spice continues to reap havoc as new strains seem to be making people more aggressive.

Spice is a drug, a synthetic version of cannabis.

Spice was big in the news earlier this year but coverage of the damage that this drug is doing to peoples’ lives seems to have faded away.

Its use and the problems it creates have increased.

We are regularly experiencing people under the influence of spice and finding people in a zombie like state.

People are becoming more aggressive while under the influence of spice.

This drug grips hold of people so tightly that they simply can not focus upon anything else other than buying and using more spice.

I’ve never seen a drug that is more addictive.

More resources and greater powers need to be given to the police and our frontline services, so we can deal with the spice epidemic sweeping our streets.

The Rucksack project was a huge success, thanks so much to everyone who came along to The Wellspring with vital donations that will be used by homeless people over the next 12 months.

The day of the Rucksack project is one of my favourite days to work at The Wellspring.

It’s overwhelming to see so many local people coming together to help others.

Practical donations such as rucksacks and sleeping bags can be dropped off at The Wellspring any day of the year.

On Tuesday, December 19, The Wellspring is hosting a Christmas carol concert at Saint Mary’s on the Marketplace at 1.30pm, please come along and support this event.

The Wellspring will be open every day over Christmas and New Year and every other day of the year.

Please don’t be alone this Christmas time.

Anyone and everyone can use the services at The Wellspring, we have no criteria other than being over 18.

The Wellspring can be found on Harvey Street in the town centre.

Please support The Wellspring Christmas Dinner Campaign, for every donation of £5 we will provide someone in need with a full Christmas dinner and a gift.

Donations can be made online via The Wellspring website or by texting XMDC17£5 to 70070.
