Derby defeat leads to slip for Stockport

- NORTH WEST 1

meant Stockport had to defend desperately to prevent a further score in the the half.

This defence into some 10 minutes of injury time was solid enough to keep it at 10-0 at the break.

Stockport lost Prop Will Hurstwood, hooker Andy Broadhurst and second row Marc Benson to injury so started the second period with a rejigged pack, including Richard Sackville-West from the backs.

However there was a good start to the half as a good five metre scrum gave Simon Green the chance to pick up and score for Tom Eaton to convert.

At 10-7 Stockport were in the game but after a good spell, with skipper Kieran Hibbs, Simon Green and Matt Lawrowitsch prominent, the Burnage wing broke through tackles to get a try and a penalty was soon added to give Burnage a 20-7 lead.

As Stockport’s error count crept up the Burnage wing gathered a knock on and went 50 meters to score a converted try for 27-7.

In the closing stages a good kick to touch by Tom Eaton gave an opportunity for a catch and drive, with Andy McFadden touching down for Tom Eaton to convert for a final score of 27-14.

Next weekend is another local derby as Manchester come to Headlands Road for the first of the return fixtures. They will be seeking revenge for their defeat earlier in the season.
