Rivals’ appetite proves tough to match

- TERENCE MCGEEHAN BLACKBURN COLTS ..... 33 HEATON MOOR COLTS . 7

THE fact that this game went ahead was due to some serious hard work by the hosts to clear the snow from the playing surface from first light Sunday.

Their hard work paid off when their lads put in a strong performance to comprehensively defeat Heaton Moor.

Blackburn adapted better to the icy conditions and looked much the hungrier side.

Early exchanges were very tight, both teams having key moments but in general Heaton Moor were getting on top.

Breaks from Asa Bottomley and Dylan Starkie were thwarted with last ditch tackles, Dominic Rafferty and Angus Boothroyd also denied by handling errors in what were seriously tricky conditions.

But ten minutes before the break the game changed.

Moor tried to pass their way out from deep within their own 22,’ got turned over and Blackburn scored the first try of the game.

And then on the stroke of half time, déjà vu! Blackburn turned them over, won a penalty and from a quick tap and go, touched down under the posts. Moor now feeling shell-shocked at a deficit of fourteen points in a half in which they had dominated.

In the second half, again Moor pushed forward and looked likely to get back in the game but as in previous weeks, they were unable to finish off some really promising moves.

Max Savage came close after a trademark drive, and then a pass from Joe Kilbride went astray with a double overlap looming!

Again, Blackburn rallied and three quick tries in the space of ten minutes put the result beyond doubt, all but one of the tries superbly converted.

Heaton Moor got a consolation near the end when Jono Glanfield scored a try, Nick Tenney converting with the last kick of the game.

The final game of 2017 will be at home to Bowdon, Heaton Moor will be hoping to end the year on a positive note.
