Lessons in keeping children safe when they go online
STAFF at a financial services company in Cheadle spent their lunchtime learning about keeping children safe online.
Colleagues from Together took part in a workshop developed by the NSPCC and O₂ to help parents educate youngsters about the dangers of the internet.
The workshop, delivered by NSPCC campaigns manager Helen Westerman, was intended to provide insight into both the opportunities and potential risks that the internet can pose for young people, while encouraging parents to talk to their children about their online lives.
Helen Westerman said: “The online world can be unfamiliar and sometimes daunting to parents, but to protect our children it is vital that we understand the technology and can have informed conversations with them about it.
“We believe that if people and their children are aware of the potential opportunities and dangers faced online then they are better placed to protect themselves against them.”
Kevin Fisher, human resources director at Together, said: “We are very grateful to the NSPCC for coming to deliver this workshop for our colleagues.
“It was eye opening to see the vast array of apps and websites children use and the potential risks they face in the online world.
“We all felt the session has given us the tools to help the children in our lives stay safe online.”
