Progress in Cheshire Cup for Bramhall

-

BRAMHALL progressed in the Cheshire Cup with a 36-run victory against Hyde on Sunday.

Bramhall won the toss and decided to make first use of the wicket, with five changes from the team that played on Saturday.

They got off to a bad start with the loss of the first wicket falling with the score on 12.

Sam Johnson joined Banthorpe at the crease where they moved the score along with the odd boundary and lots of quick singles, putting lots of pressure on the Hyde fielding.

The second wicket of Johnson fell with the score on 39, Banthorpe was looking more and more composed at the crease.

Bramhall built another small partnership to move the score along to 57 where a cluster of wickets fell reducing Bramhall to 59-4.

This brought to the crease Ryan Macciocchi and with Banthorpe he helped put on a 162 run partnership. A key factor in this partnership was running well between the wickets.

Banthorpe brought up his hundred off 100 balls which included ten fours.

Macciocchi ended up getting bowled for a very well-made 73, with the score on 221-5.

Banthorpe then set about hitting the Hyde attack around Church Lane for an unbeaten 147, ably supported by the captain with 17 runs at the end.

Bramhall went into teas feeling very buoyant, knowing that a couple of early wickets would make this score a hard one to chase.

Bramhall started the innings a little loosely conceding boundaries in a flurry.

Then the heavens open on Church Lane, this rain delay enabled the bowlers to have a think about their line and lengths.

Bramhall shortly after the rain delay picked up the big wicket of the Hyde captain Berry for 30 with Macciocchi being the bowler.

Bramhall then got on a bit of a run picking up regular top order wickets.

Captain Cantello change the bowlers round well.

Littlewood bowled well picking up two wickets for 36 runs and Stoneman picking up two wickets for 32.

Hyde with the score on 125-7 put up some late order resistance with some lusty blows from Ebbrell and Dawber.

Bramhall managed take the final couple wickets with the pick of the bowlers being Iftikhar Naseer with 4 for 27 from his 8 overs.

Bramhall won the game by 36 runs, lots of credit must go to Banthorpe, Macciocchi and Naseer for their performances.

Bramhall face New Brighton at home in the next round of the Cheshire Cup with the date yet to be arranged.

On Saturday the first team suffered a home loss to Cheadle, who batted first and were 197-9 from 55 overs.

Bramhall were 169 all out in the 47th over, having looked in a good position to chase down earlier in the innings at 98-2.

Bramhall took just six points from the game.

The 1st XI did win impressively in the last of their Cheshire T20 group games at Toft last Tuesday to win through to a home quarter final tie against Urmston on June 21st. The Beavers posted 211-6 from their 20 overs, with Adam Wilde & Ashley West outing on a rapid 135 run opening stand. Toft were then all out for 169 as Bramhall won by 42 runs.

The 2nd XI also faced Cheadle (away) on Saturday and fought to reach 181-8 from their 55 overs, aided by 67* from Gavin Tomlinson. League leaders Cheadle were kept under pressure throughout their innings, and eventually resorted to blocking out the closing overs as they finished on 164-8.
