Firefighters step up to charity challenge
GIANT steps were taken to raise charity money as firefighters scaled the height of Everest in a ladder climb.
Organiser Kev Downey, from whitewatch at King Street station, led a team of colleagues through the challenge at Merseyway, Stockport town centre.
Altogether they scaled 8,848m as they continually climbed from the precinct to the first floor walkway.
The team, which also included firefighters from Gorton greenwatch, raised £750 – split between children’s charity When You Wish Upon A Star, the Firefighters Charity and Manchester Burns Camp.
It was a busy day at Merseyway as shoppers could also enjoy giant prehistoric creatures roaming round as part of Dinosaur Takeover Day.
Kev said: “It was a fantastic event and made all the better with there being a dinosaur event running at the same time.
“We want to thank the generous people of Stockport who will help many a wish come true for children and their families,
“And a big thanks should go to greenwatch Gorton who turned up and did a fantastic stint ascending the ladder to reach our target.”
