Town taking on County in friendly clash
STOCKPORT Town have announced their preseason fixtures for the 2018/19 campaign and there is one fixture that stands out amongst the others – Stockport Town versus Stockport County!
The Lions get their pre-season underway with new leadership once again, as Alan Lord becomes Town’s fourth manager in as many seasons since the club was formed, and Lord is all too familiar with the Lions’ first friendly opponents, County.
Lord also remains a part of Stockport County FC as he continues his work as Director of Youth Development – however last month he agreed to take over as Head of Management at Stockport Town.
Upon his appointment, Lord said: “Stockport County have some exceptional young players but they need that next level.
“My management team and myself now have the opportunity to merge these players with the existing playing staff at Stockport Town FC.
“It’s an exciting project for both clubs who will offer time energy and commitment to make it a success.”
Former Lions manager, Jake Davies, who took over for the remainder of the 2017/18 season continues working with the club, now alongside Lord in a First Team Coach role, where he is joined by Tom Upton and former County player, Bobby Lofthouse, both in coaching roles.
Town get their 2018/19 season underway on Tuesday 10 July under the lights at their home, Stockport Sports Village, as they host County in the clubs’ first ever meeting.
All the action gets underway at 8pm and Lord will be looking to implement his methods into the Lions’ game, as well as eyeing up prospects for the coming North West
