Castle breached as Tixall progress
THE latest round of games in Cheshire’s prestigious Brunner Cup took place on Saturday across the county. Cheadle Cons hosted the clash of the titans between holders Castle Private and past winners Tixall.
The side from Liverpool always held sway and dumped out last campaign’s champions 220-200 overall.
Terry Gale’s Houldsworth WMC haven’t tasted Brunner Cup success since 2011 and faced a stern test against Wharton Cons over in Wilmslow. In a topsy turvy encounter the match boiled down to the last jack on the green and Wharton held there nerve to prevail by the minimum of 1 shot.
Stockport did receive some good news with both Victoria and Nursery securing themselves quarter final berths in the competition.
Elsewhere Lloyds Hotel dumped out Poynton Sports with a comprehensive success at Rudheath Bowls and Social in Northwich.

In the Stockport and District 1 Division George and Dragon continue to go along nicely and lead the way by 6.5 points. Travelling away to Poynton the men from Hyde bagged six and the aggregate to grab a valuble 12-4 result. Champions Houldsworth continue to chase them down but let three losers slip through the net at home to struggling Woodley Sports.
The away side picked up wins from Alan Poole, John Rothwell and also Billy Smythe.
In the second division Spring Gardens were the first team to defeat The Nursery securing a 9-6 home result.
