Man, 84 charged with wife murder

A PENSIONER has appeared in court charged with the murder of his wife.

Lawrence Franks, 84, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

He stands charged with the murder of his wife Patricia Franks.

The 86-year-old was found dead at a house on Francis Avenue in Gatley, Stockport, on Sunday.

Addressing magistrates, Laura Keegan, prosecuting, said : “This matter is so serious it cannot be dealt with in these courts and I respectfully ask you to send the matter to the Crown Court.”

Defending, Paul Green made no application for bail.

The case was adjourned for a pre-trial hearing at Minshull Crown Court today, July 11.

Mr Franks was remanded in custody and led from the dock by security officers.
