Town hall turned blue (and orange) for cause
ON Global MND Awareness Day, Stockport Town Hall was glowing blue and orange in support of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The event on June 21 was arranged by volunteer, Manchester and District branch vice chair, Greg Broadhurst.
He said: “I was delighted to have the support of Stockport council again, who agreed to light the iconic town hall in the MND Association’s colours.
“We were kindly joined by the mayor of Stockport, Walter Brett, who has selected the MND Association to benefit from his year in office, along with Parkinson’s UK.
“To see my home town, Stockport, show its ongoing support is brilliant.
“We always strive to gain awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and the town hall lit up certainly provided a talking point.
“Lighting the town hall for Global MND Awareness Day felt special for all of us present and follows great prior support, with the council having adopted the MND Charter in 2017.”
Coun Tom McGee, cabinet member for health, said: “We are pleased once again to help raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, which is a very serious disease for those affected and their families.
“The more people know about it the better.”
Coun Brett said: “I am aware of the condition and its effects and I am pleased that I am able to support the MND Association as one of my charities in my mayoral year.”
