Youngsters closing in on rivals Leigh

THE YDL track event took place at the weekend for the upper age group, consisting of athletes from U17 to seniors.

Stockport Harriers are placing fourth at the moment, creeping close behind Leigh Harriers.

Many of the club’s athletes battled out the sweltering heat and did their club proud with Luke Farrant competing in the A race for the 1500 taking third place with a new PB 4.06.7.

Over to the throwing area, Euan Benson stole second with a launch of 9.03, achieved third place with a hammer throw of 21.24 and if that wasn’t enough he also took third in the Javelin with 28.20.

Sam Johnson took first place on the B team in the discus event with a distance of 24.55 and also got second in Javelin with 26.77.

Staying with the men, Luke Farrant, Sam Johnson, Karl Taylor and Harry Miller Reedman competed in the 4X400m relay resulting in a time of 3.43.

On to the U17s, starting with the 200m sprint. Emilio Ramirez (23.5) earned gold for Stockport. Next, for the 400m, two Stockport athletes Will Lewis (53.9) came first in the A race and Joseph Philbin (57.2) came third in the B race.

Long-distance runner Fabio Carosi took silver (2.07) in the 800m and Flynn Walsh got third in the 1500m (4.21)

In the U20 girls, Grace Preston in the 100m sprint took first place in an astonishin­g time of 12.4 nearing onto her PB of 12.24. Grace also came first in the 200m sprint with 25.9.

In the 100m Hurdles Abigail Pawlett ruled the race, coming first with a time of 14.8, two seconds ahead of second place.

Katie Waterworth, competing in the long jump event for Stockport, took first (5.54) alongside Grace Preston in the B race with 5.07.

Emily Jared came first in triple jump with 10.30.

Shot put was another successful event with the girls, especially with Holly Benson who achieved 10.20 and won the event.

For the younger U17s Megan Lasseter (13.7) came third in the 100m sprint and also took third place in 80m hurdle with 13.4.

Another hurdling event left Holly Aitchison in first with 48.1.

The girls 800m resulted in a good third place win for Lauren Burgess with 2.30.

Evie Wild took joint first position (1.55) in high jump in the A race and Holly Aitchison also took first (1.50) in the B race.

Holly then claimed first in triple jump with 10.77 alongside Megan Lasseter with 10.52.

Shot and discus proved to be strong points as Emily Misantoni and Evie Wild in shot took second (10.53, A race) and first (8.98, B race).

More success piled in with discus as Bethan Kelly (20.94 A race) and Lauren Burgess (17.10 B race) came took first and second.

Finally, Stockport girls took home gold in the 300m relay for the YDL with 3.06 with Maija Dunne, Holly Aitchison, Evie Wild and Lauren Burgess two seconds ahead of Preston Harriers following behind.
