AMAN has been taken to hospital after he was shot outside a hotel in broad daylight.

Police were called to reports of a man being shot at the Village Hotel in Cheadle shortly after 3.50pm on Friday.

The man, thought to be in his fifties, was taken to hospital with leg and back injuries. Police say his condition is not life-threatening.

Officers are investigating the incident as a targeted attack. They say the man was stood alone by the boot of his car in the hotel’s car park when he was shot.

It is believed the shooter was riding a black moped that had a rear mudguard in the shape of a triangle.

He was wearing a light coloured helmet and a baggy dark jacket, police say.

One woman who was using the hotel gym at the time of the incident said: “I was using the gym this afternoon and was told to get out of the pool immediately as someone had been shot outside.

“I was told the man was shot by a male on a black moped. I’ve been a member here for years and nothing like this has ever happened before.”

Following the incident, hotel members and visitors were allowed back into the three-star hotel, which is just off Cheadle Road.

Plain-clothed officers were seen photographing a vehicle in the car park just to the right of the entrance.

Insp Terry Chatterton of GMP’s Stockport borough said: “Now that the man is being treated by the ambulance service, our main priority is to locate the person responsible for this shooting.

“Our initial enquiries indicate this was a targeted attack, but we are working locally to establish how this situation unfolded and need people who saw this happen to come forward.”

A spokesperson for the Village Hotel and Club said: “Village Hotel Club can confirm that following an incident in the car park of its Cheadle hotel it is providing the authorities its full support.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact GMP on 0161 856 9821 quoting log 1263 of the 13/07/18.
