Support Rucksack appeal

- BY JONATHAN BILLINGS Chief Executive Officer at The Wellspring

ON Sunday, December 2, The Wellspring will be hosting its sixth Rucksack Project.

We are appealing for members of the public and local organisations to start collecting donations of Rucksacks, warm winter clothing, basic toiletries and sleeping bags. The Wellspring makes, packs up and distributes them to anyone sleeping rough on our streets this winter.

Last year The Wellspring gave out over 2000 Rucksack project packs to either people on the streets or to other organisations that engage with people who are rough sleeping.

It is the aim of Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to provide every single rough sleeper with accommodation over this winter. However, most of this accommodation will be large empty rooms where people sleep together on the floor.

This is far from ideal and many homeless people and rough sleepers who we engage with regularly at The Wellspring would refuse this kind of accommodation.

Please support The Wellspring and The Rucksack Project and put a pack together that will make a massive difference to someone this winter.

For more information or to get involved please look up The Ruck Sack Project Stockport on Facebook or follow the links on The Wellspring website.

The Wellspring stores all our rucksack project donations at Big Yellow Storage in Stockport, which is a fantastic storage facility that allows Wellspring staff to access the unit whenever we need to.

We would like to thank Big Yellow for all their support of The Wellspring and The Rucksack Project.

A charity fashion show by Bramhall boutique Modiste took place last week at Yard Bird in Bramhall, this was a brilliant event, raising over £1200 for The Wellspring.

It’s events like this that make sure that The Wellspring can continue to grow and develop.

Thanks so much to Sue and her team of models and everybody who came along on the evening for making it such a brilliant event.

The Wellspring is now recruiting new volunteers, if you are interested in volunteering then please visit www.thewellspring. co.uk and fill out our volunteer application form.
