AFC spring Cup shock on neighbours

IN the Stockport Senior Cup, AFC Stockport beat their local rivals Spurley Hey 1-0 despite the three division gap. Signol Athletic put up a valiant challenge at Cheshire League Poynton before going down 2-1. Stoconians reserves also went out by the same score at home to Stockport Georgians reserves.

Abacus Media had a great victory away at Avro reserves, going through 1-3 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes in the Manchester Challenge Cup.

In the Manchester Amateur Cup Radclyffe had a sweet afternoon with an 11-2 victory over former L & C team Manchester Rovers.

Rochdalian­s – after a 4-1 home win over Old Strets – are now eight points clear of nonplaying Milton in the Premier Division. Whalley Range were 1-3 winners at Mellor, to keep 4th spot in a group of four teams on 12 points, which includes Trafford United who continued their recent good run of form, winning by the odd goal in five over a well-equipped South Manchester team.

Salford Vics travelled to Waterloo and were 2-0 down after an hour in a game that was nip and tuck. A goal from Ben Green and a Josh Rowlands brace all coming in the last eight minutes gave Vics a 3-2 victory to keep up their hoodoo over Waterloo still never having lost to them.

High Lane got back to winning ways, 1-5 at Old Ashtonians after the disappoint­ment of their cup defeat last week.

In Division One, Dom Doyle were free-scoring in their 7-2 triumph over Stoconians to stay 3 points above Parrswood Celtic, winners at Chortlonia­ns by 0-3. Irlam Tiger stayed close, winning 0-4 at Swinton.

Moston Brook just pipped Hooley Bridge Celtic 4-3 to leapfrog them into fourth place, and AFC Oldham were 0-4 winners at Didsbury. Oldham Vics got a welcome first point in a 4-4 draw at Bury Amateur and now hope for a turn of fortune.

Manchester Polonia continue to dominate Division Two with a 0-7 victory at Chorltonia­ns reserves. Hollingwor­th were too strong scoring 7 at South Manchester reserves, their consolatio­n coming from Mike Tonner.

Bedians continued the away winning sequence by 2-4 at Mellor reserves. Santos belied their league position, going to second placed Newton to draw 2-2. Urmston Town also scored 7 at home to Rochdalian­s reserves who got one in return.

In Division Three Chadderton Park went to the top with a 4-0 win over Mellor Thirds. Not Mellor’s day. Dukinfield Athletic moved into 3rd spot with a 0-5 victory at Village Manchester. Salford Vics reserves v Milton 2nds saw goals from Nat Williams (2), Gage O’Brien, Keir Jones and James Grantham after Milton had gone 0-2 in the opening 10 minutes, gave Vics a 5-2 Victory.

Chadderton Cott consolidat­ed their second place in Division A with a 2-4 AFC Oldham reserves. Dukinfield Athletic reserves made it a good day for the club with a 3-1 win over Trafford United reserves.

Unicorn Athletic capitulate­d in the second half after being on top for the first period away at Moston Brook Reserves. Four well executed goals on the break with a consolatio­n from Alex Coe with his first goal of the season saw the home team take the spoils. Also 4-1 winners were Rochdale Galaxy at home to Spurley Hey reserves. Chorltonia­ns Villa had a welcome 2-3 win at Signol Athletic Reserves.

Division B Old Stretfordi­ans reserves had a scare before edging a 2-1 win over Stoconians thirds. Parrs Wood Celtic reserves stayed in second with a 1-3 victory at Hooley Bridge Celtic reserves.

Chadderton Cott reserves continued their good start winning by 3-1 over Bury Amateur reserves, one point clear of AFC Oldham thirds 2-0 victors over Moston Brook Thirds.

In the mid table clash it was close again, Staly Lions overcoming Hillgate 4-3. In the local derby, Didsbury reserves had a welcome 2-1 win over the Chorltonia­ns Athletic veterans.

Division C Whalley Range thirds moved up to fifth place with a 1-2 win at Stoconians 4ths.
