‘Most expensive’ house in Stockport
THE most expensive home to be sold in Greater Manchester in September was in Stockport.
The Barn Stead, a vast 1920s pile, went for a whopping £1,400,000 and is a reflection of the booming property market in the some areas of the town, according to the agents who sold it.
The property, on Didsbury Road in Heaton Mersey, is one of a number of homes fetching over a million as well-off house-hunters turn to the neighbourhood instead of the traditionally upmarket suburbs of Didsbury and Trafford.
“The Heatons has changed massively over the last couple of years”, said Jack McCreery, from estate agents Philip James Kennedy, who sold the four-bedroom home on September 7.
“A lot of people have moved over from Didsbury and Chorlton, due to the café culture, The Savoy Cinema, the green space and the schools.
“Priestnall School is rated as outstanding, and we have three or four outstanding primary schools.”
The Barn Stead, hidden behind double gates, boasts a reception hallway, games room, and four double bedrooms. It was purchased in 2012 for £980,000, but has since had a separate annexe built onto it.
It’s one of four homes in Stockport that made the top ten list for most expensive properties bought in the region in September.
