Club getting things right on and off field

WHEN keeping a watchful eye on things Stockport County, it is not often, this being the real world, that ‘stuff going on’ within the Club instils a warm feeling of satisfacti­on.

This week was different as young and old were in focus at the Club.

First off, Stockport County’s highly valued and remarkably successful Community Foundation, having establishe­d their considerab­le credential­s in the field of coaching youngsters within and without the Borough, announced that they are now looking to focus on adults and senior citizens, via a new programme they are launching called Sport in Memories, with an Open Day today Wednesday 14 November 2018.

The aim of “Sport in Memories” project is to increase social contact and support for people experienci­ng social isolation and loneliness.

The Memories Group is very much a Social Wellbeing group offering a weekly drop in at the Stockport County Museum at Edgeley Park, giving people the opportunit­y to come along and meet and chat with friendly staff and volunteers, and take advantage of stress-relieving activities such as gentle yoga and art therapy and make long-term lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing.

Meanwhile, the Club, in the shape of James Gannon and Alan Lord, were looking after Stockport County’s youngsters, answering the question ‘why spend time and resources on a youth policy’ when Gannon gave 12 Academy graduates a place in his County squad for a tough Cheshire Senior Cup tie with Warrington Town at Cantilever Park, thus adding real substance to Lord’s ‘Realistic Pathway’- now youngsters with ability know this exists at County, and supporters can see it can bear fruit for the Club alsoCounty’s young side coming away with a 2-1 win. Simply brilliant !
