Magic of the cup shines on Hatters

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

WHAT a day! What a game! What a result! Stockport County just keep marching on. We were up at the crack of dawn and on the Fingerpost Flyer heading for Somerset in great spirits, all up for the magic of the cup.

Credit must go to the club for subsidising the coach travel.

The intention was obvious, get as many of the faithful to Huish Park as possible, the offer was taken up and was rewarded with a performance that left us wondering which of the two teams played in the football league.

On the coach at 1 o’clock the rain was torrential but as we got into the ground the sun was out, it was warm as was the pasty I had (it’s the only food of choice in that part of the world) and very nice it was.

The local stewards were very nice but I don’t think they had an idea of the numbers we would bring, by the end they’d brought in reinforcements because we were celebrating but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Yeovil scored early, Alex Fisher, probably the best player on the pitch, headed in but when he became the second home player to be substituted due to injuring himself the game was there for the taking and we took it!

Matty Warburton equalised with a magnificent free kick and just four minutes later Nyal Bell got his toe on the end of an Elliott Osborne low cross to give us the lead.

At that point of the game we were in charge, the vast majority of the play was County going forward and going forward with purpose.

The rain came down and it was torrential for a few minutes but the faithful just kept on singing.

The home side made their third substitute and Jim countered with two of our own Dimaio and Mulhern coming on for Bell and Warby and they both had an instant impact, Frank pressured the Yeovil centreback who collided with the keeper leaving Frank with time to celebrate as he walked the ball into the net.

The faithful, justifiably, went crazy with delight; the singing went up a notch and as the clock ran down it just got louder.

At the final whistle it was great to be a part of the crowd, to see what it meant to so many people, supporters, players and management and to be able to say I was there.
