Findlay and Farnworth first past post

IT was close at Stockport in a BB Stableford with L Findlay and J Farnworth first past the post with 42 points, one more than A Gee and N Russell, P Kay and M Whitham, G Torkington and M Johnson and C Unsworth and B Harding.

Stableford action for Marple’s men had Dillon McPhee on top of division one with 37 points from Daniel Bowden 36 and Daniel Newton 34.

Jonathan Vaisey was the star man in division two with 35 points, one more than Criag Murray.

Marple ladies played a singles medal and it needed a cpo on 77 to see Karen Buchanan into top spot from Louise Hodkinson.

Bramall Park’s men played a singles Stableford and it was won by Dave Strachan with 42 points from Edward Daber 41 and Phil Stafford and Matt Beckley, both 40.

Park’s ladies played their Autumn Meeting and Donna McIntosh led in with 39 points from Clare Slack 38 and Pam Bowden 36.

AVRO’s men enjoyed an American Foursomes and none more than Mark Brooks, Neil Bryan who won with 39 points ahead of Ian Anderson and club legend Bob Collins, who won a cpo on 37 from three other pairs.

A singles Stableford at Bramhall had division one led in by Gareth Woolnough with 39 points, three more than Bob Eastwood.

In division two Steve Rosler won a cpo on 37 from Gavin McGowan, three more than Peter Thompson.

Bramhall ladies were also in Stableford mode and the four divisions were led in by Pat Marriott 37 points, Pat Newall 36, Carolyn Eastwood 35 and Jan Johnston 29.

The Sunblest Trophy for Reddish Vale ladies was won by Jeanette Kinder with 34 points and the Bernard Murray Stableford by Sheila Brookes with 39 points.

Stableford action for Vale’s men saw Dave Hamilton lead in with 39 points from Ian Mottershea­d and Louis Covell, both 37.

The Sunday pro Stableford at Vale had Simon Davenport out on his own with 43 points, five more than Paul Donohue.

In a Vale Wednesday medal the divisional winners were Ryan Jackson 67, Richard Bradshaw 65 and Tom Walker 62.

The first Winter Stableford at Hazel Grove was won by Robert Eccles with 40 points from Marc Stevens 39 and Ian Barwell 37.

The Ian Wilberforc­e Wednesday medal at Grove had Tim Johnson in top spot with 67, one less than David Rogerson and Ian Barwell.

Grove’s ladies were also in medal mode with Ruth Lupton on top with 74 from Kathryn Wardle-Davies and Marilyn Webley three shots off her pace.

A Texas Scramble at Houldswort­h was won by the fab four of S Wrigley, M Meecham, L Donovan and Danny McCoy with 58.7 from M Wilde, M and D Adms 59.2

There was a full field with a waiting list for the Manchester Alliance’s Four Man Team competitio­n staged at the scenic and excellent Helsby Golf Club.

It proved to be a great day for Davyhulme Park profession­al Martyn Hamer who pulled off a great double win.

He posted a superb seven-under par round of 43 points to waltz to victory in the profession­al individual section, four clear of Ryan O’Neill (Penwortham) and Mark Hancock (Stand).

Then in a close finish in the Team event with Martyn getting great support from his club team of Paul Clutterbuc­k, Derrick Page and Charlie Ward to edge home with 91 points.
