Moor bounce back in style to sink Lune

- TERENCE MCGEEHAN

PERHAPS on a mission to show that last weekend’s loss against Old Rishworthians was a mere blip, the Senior Colts were outstanding when they obliterated Vale of Lune in a clinical display.

Led by the excellent James Bellis in a Man of the Match display, Moor tore into their opponents with a virtuoso eight-try performance.

Although, there were a couple more injuries to temper matters, Andrew Badrock a nasty ankle injury very early on and new Lancashire recruit, Joe Kilbride retired late in the game with a rib injury.

With a tricky visit to Altrincham next weekend, the strength of the squad will be tested.

But it only took ten minutes to open the scoring.

Will Smith finished off a great team score, countless phases creating the opening, Nick Tenney adding the conversion from a very tough kick.

Then two tries in the space of three minutes, Bob Berry and then Nick Tenney after a brilliant catch and line break by James Bellis.

Nick Tenney then doubled his tally for the day before top scorer Asa Bottomley intercepted and ran to score from his own half! Deja-Vu!

An incredible thirty-one-point lead at half time and no score conceded!

Straight from the kick off, Asa Bottomley ran at the Lancastrians, creating the opening for Joe Kilbride to outrun the Vale of Lune defence and scoring under the posts.

This was undoubtedly the best rugby this team have played and against opposition against whom they always have an immense battle.

Trevor ChappellDanson got his name on the scoresheet, the result of yet another sumptuous team move! Half way through the second half, Vale of Lune got a deserved score, their forwards finally seeing some results from their hard work.

But then Tom Bushby went over for his first score, Nick Tenney terrorising the visitors with savage work, forcing a turnover.

The last ten minutes were a case of Heaton Moor perhaps taking their foot off the gas, Vale of Lune adding two unanswered tries to give them some consolation for the long journey home.

But what a brilliant performance and the perfect start to the new restructured Lancashire League.
