Warning over ‘sick father’ scammer
A SCAMMER has been preying on kind-hearted people in Stockport by asking for cash so he can visit his sick father in hospital.
The man also asks for their victim’s home address so he can return the money.
Police have issued a warning to the public to not hand over any money after a man was seen carrying out the scam in the Cheadle area on Wednesday afternoon.
One person handed over £15 and their home address.
The fraudster is described as white, aged in his 40s, around 6ft tall and with an average build.
GMP Cheadle and Bramhall wrote on their Facebook page: “Report received Wednesday, 3.30pm, of a male in Cheadle Village asking to borrow money, the male stated he needed money to buy petrol to get to hospital and visit his sick father who had suffered a heart attack.
“A kind person gave him £15 and their home address, so the male could return the money.
“However, no money was returned. This is a scam which has been used many times before throughout South Manchester.
“Please warn friends and relatives of this scam, and call 101 if you have been approached by him.”
