Warn­ing over ‘sick fa­ther’ scam­mer

A SCAM­MER has been prey­ing on kind-hearted peo­ple in Stock­port by ask­ing for cash so he can visit his sick fa­ther in hos­pi­tal.

The man also asks for their vic­tim’s home ad­dress so he can re­turn the money.

Po­lice have is­sued a warn­ing to the pub­lic to not hand over any money af­ter a man was seen car­ry­ing out the scam in the Chea­dle area on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon.

One per­son handed over £15 and their home ad­dress.

The fraud­ster is de­scribed as white, aged in his 40s, around 6ft tall and with an av­er­age build.

GMP Chea­dle and Bramhall wrote on their Face­book page: “Re­port re­ceived Wed­nes­day, 3.30pm, of a male in Chea­dle Vil­lage ask­ing to bor­row money, the male stated he needed money to buy petrol to get to hos­pi­tal and visit his sick fa­ther who had suf­fered a heart at­tack.

“A kind per­son gave him £15 and their home ad­dress, so the male could re­turn the money.

“How­ever, no money was re­turned. This is a scam which has been used many times be­fore through­out South Man­ches­ter.

“Please warn friends and rel­a­tives of this scam, and call 101 if you have been ap­proached by him.”
