Bakery is ‘community asset’
STOCKPORT MP Ann Coffey welcomed the town’s new community bakery, branding it a valuable community asset.
Based on Chestergate, The Kitchen is a bakery and cafe run by clients and volunteers of the charity Pure Innovations.
Freshly baked goods are made each day to be served to customers or donated to nearby charities.
Ann met with clients, volunteers and customers at The Kitchen, before helping to make some cupcakes for sale.
She said: “I’m proud that The Kitchen has opened in Stockport town centre.
“It’s a bright, open space where you can see your food being prepared and the bread and cakes I received were delicious.”
Pure Innovations operations director, David Ferrier, added: “Our clients and volunteers are already learning new skills at The Kitchen, and we’re confident that this will continue.
“We want it to become a well used community space and we’re now starting to donate freshly baked goods to local people in need.”
The Kitchen, located at Graylaw House, between the Air Raid Shelters and the Plaza, is open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
